Meeting Minutes – February 12, 2007

I     Meeting called to order at 7:07 pm by Tony Sanelli.

II    Mar Vista Community Council Event
Our Association is hosting a table.  The event begins at 7:00 pm.  The main topic will be Emergency Preparedness.

III    Spring Fling
Neighborhood event to enhance community spirit is tentatively scheduled for late April.  Concerns about budget were discussed.  A planning meeting will discuss these issues further.

IV    Block Captains Update
There was a meeting last weekend.  The dues collection for this cycle is complete.  The estimated balance is close to $7000.  The dues come from about 20% of the households.  We would hope that this number could be higher.  It was suggested to increase the visibility of the Block Captain in the neighborhood.  A few blocks are still not represented.

V    Newsletter Update
Apartments – Perhaps managers can be invited to come to our meetings.  The Community Council does give $1000 to associations for reaching out to apartments.
The Boy Scouts distributed newsletters on the blocks west of Barrington.
Richland Ave Elementary is having a dedication to the new playground 9:45 on February 28, 2007.  Direct any questions to Ellen at the school at 310.473-0467.

VI    Guest Speaker
A speaker, Sharon Cummings, from the Mar Vista Community Council in charge of the sub-committee on Concept Plan Committee spoke to our group.  They have a stakeholders meeting May 5, 2007 at St. John’s Presbyterian Church on 11000 National Blvd at 9:00 to noon.  Some issues that neighbors have are density, building and mass transit.  The website is www.marvistacc.org or you can email her at smcummings@msn.com.

VII    SM Airport
We would like to support the airport in collecting fees for “Fractional” jet owners.   Jim will be attending the meeting for the LAX Master Plan to represent us.

VIII     Other Issues
Traffic and safety issues in alleys and intersections.   Graffiti issues in neighborhood as well.  Removal numbers available on our website or call 311 for the correct city department.  Neighbors are not cleaning up after their dogs on the school block.  Feeding stray cats may be inviting feral cats into the neighborhood.

IX    Meeting Adjourned at 7:44.
